We interrupt our usual programming to provide an update on our Goonerholics Forever Predictathon, and the donations that went to Bob and Meg Wilson’s Willow Foundation.
We were pleased to receive this email from Lisa Stewart, Willow’s Community Fundraising Officer:
“Dear Goonerholicsforever,
Now that the date for final entries to the Goonerholics Forever prediction competition has closed I am delighted to confirm that donations from your participants reached a magnificent £591.67. As you probably know, we rely entirely upon the generosity of our supporters to fund our services, so donations like this really mean a lot to us.
Dominic is 21, lives in Kent and has Lymphoma. He had a recent trip with his family to Center Parcs. Here is some feedback from his father which illustrates the impact of a Special Break: “Life is so fragile and unpredictable. Against its maverick ways, one clings to those moments where light eliminates the darkness and amidst the desert reaches, one happens upon an oasis. The Willow Foundation provided this rare and deeply appreciated pause, amidst the furies, for us to taste again the sweetness of life, and to experience the beauty of being at peace together. We are deeply grateful and offer our heartfelt thanks.”
Thank you once again for thinking of Willow, it is much appreciated. Good luck to your winner in due course!
Kindest regards, Lisa”
Special thanks to TTG and North Bank Ned for doing the heavy lifting on our contest, and to all who are participating in the Predictathon whose donations engendered this response…
Kudos to Willow’s work, and to all the holics who helped to fund it.
It appears that 2 of the 32 clubs inthe CL group stage have Red Bull in their names. Maybe next year Red Bull could sponsor something trully useful. … maybe Willow? Although Red Bull Willow does seem to miss the point.
Nice work, Holics.
What a kind note from Willow.
Just shy of £600 raised for the cause. I think the Guv’nor would be proud, or as he would have said, you guys are the mutts.
Good stuff. Cheers Ned and TTG! And yes he would have said that indeed!
bt8, ai thought Leipzig didn’t have it, as they are ‘RasenBall’, to circumvent a German rule/law?
Well done everybody!
A glass or two on the bar for Ned and TTG 🥂
Thanks gents.
Nuno off to Forest on loan for the season.
Great work, fellas.
Willow do wonderful things and really make a huge difference to people in very difficult circumstances.
It was a typically nice note from Willow
Dave would be very pleased with our efforts I’m certain .
Charles Watts confirms that Arteta doesn’t expect to make any signings before the deadline tonight
TTG@10: Today, for us, will be about shifting as much as possible of what is surplus to requirements off the payroll.
Also, a tip of the hat to Scruz, who does a lot behind the scenes for the Predictathon.
With Nuno done, that would leave Rob, Sambi, Cedric and Pepe I guess.
Rob may go to Palace apparently.
Also the window doesn’t close today in Belgium, Turkey, Greece and
Saudi Arabia. Once the Saudis fail with 100plus million for Sarah they
must want to buy Pepe for merely half that.
I will be astonished if we can sell Cedric.
A thoughtful analysis of Havertz’s contribution to date and prospects by Tim Stillman:
Actually if Edu sells Cedric I will press for a knighthood. Arise Sir Edu.
I think Edu would probably struggle to sell Saka or Odegaard 😀😀
Tierney , Lokonga and Tavares all loaned out with no obligation to buy. Minimal loan fee , one presumes their full wages are covered , and when they return they have a year less on their contract and are worth less ( not that we can sell them anyway ). Frankly I’d keep Pepe but I suspect his contract will be terminated . Cedric’s fate is a mystery .So we only got anything like decent money for Balogun , Xhaka and Turner . Austin Trusty is still in the top ten ( by fee paid ) of recent sales . The Saudi window is still open so we need to protect Gabriel .
Timber was a superb defensive acquisition for us and his situation was the sort of thing that happens in football. But having lost him we let three other experienced defenders go and two of those remaining are very injury prone ( Tomi and Zinchenko). Let’s hope Reuell Walters or Lino Sousa can step up if necessary .
